Abebe Bikila T-Shirt

Abebe Bikila didn’t just win a race when he took the Gold, barefoot & in world record time, in the 1960 Rome Olympics marathon. He inspired generations of East African long-distance champion runners.

Despite undergoing an appendectomy just 40 days before, he came back and took the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Gold, again in world record time. With that win he became the first athlete to win two Olympic marathons. He would eventually win 12 marathons before injuries ended his prolific career.

He unfortunately passed at a young age due to complications from injuries sustained in a car accident. However, his legacy lives for ever. One of the greatest Olympians of all time, Bikila is a legend amongst runners, athletes, Ethiopians, the African continent and the world.
